HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!

MIX IT UP.  If you want to change up your hamburgers a bit this Fourth, try mixing up a creative mayonnaise for them.  Start with about two cups of good mayonnaise and mix in 2 tablespoons of stoneground mustard and fresh chopped cilantro to taste.  Or skip the mustard and try adding only your favorite fresh chopped herb, such as basil or tarragon, to 2 cups of mayonnaise.

KEEP THE WATER CLOSE BY.  Check out this link for a reminder on how to handle your fireworks.  Fireworks Safety.

THE GOOD AND THE BAD. Most lakeplaces give us the beauty of trees & wooded areas. However, those are the areas where deer ticks like to hang out and those ticks can cause you serious health issues. We are in the peak season for deer tick activity and will be through July. Here is a link to an article on how to protect yourself. Deer Tick Article

KEEP IT SAFE! After a long winter we are all ready to get on the lake and feel the sun on our backs. But as this Kare 11 (Minneapolis, MN.) story reminds us, be careful when boating. Here is a young girl's story of surviving a boating accident and her words of caution to others. Tale of Survival

recipes.jpg BEST NACHOS. Here is a nachos recipe that has been a hit at our lakeplace. It is Sandra Lee's (from www.foodnetwork.com) recipe for Artichoke and Black Bean Nachos. It is very easy to make, combining black beans, artichoke hearts, tomatoes and monterey jack cheese on the tortillas. BEST NACHOS RECIPE

INSTANT CHOCOLATE DESSERTS. Everyone loves to have GOOD food and drink at the lakeplace. But it gets tricky when you are bringing food up and not sure how many people you are feeding or what they are going to be hungry for.  Click here for ideas for an instant, delicious dessert.

INVITED FOR A CABIN STAY?

And you want to bring a small gift? Consider bringing some CD's or DVD's - of course, you need to check on what equipment is at the lakeplace. Or bring the ingredients to a favorite recipe AND the recipe on a card to leave behind. Or try to presonalize a gift, such as, a set of playing cards from alma maters of the host family.

products.jpg THAT SPECIAL TOUCH. Whether for your lakeplace or as a gift, here's a perfect and affordable idea. You can order a coaster, glassware, journals, or playing cards with the outline of your lake on it. Creek's Edge in Rock Creek, MN. (Tele: 320.629.3680) carries a line of these items in the store but also offers them by mail order. The store carries some of these items in the store with certain area lakes already etched onto them. If they don't have your lake yet, you can order it for an additional set-up fee. BACK IN THE DAY

THE BUTLERS ARE GONE. Back in the day, families who were able to have a lakeplace on Rainy Lake in Minnestoa had butlers! That luxury has disappeared but you do have this site, Lakeplaceliving.com, as your lakeplace "butler."  We help you find the goods and services you need, and assist you in making the most of your time at the lakeplace. To watch the KCTA Alamanc video on the early cabin years on Rainy lake, MN. go to this link and click on the KCTA Rainy Lake story.
